What are Ecofriendly Cars?
In order to cut down on the pollution and the effects it has on the environment auto makers are now making eco-friendly cars. There are three different ways that a car can be eco-friendly which include the car being made with sustainable shipping and manufacturing processes, fuel efficient, or a combination of both. On the market today there are three different categories of eco-friendly cars.
Biodiesel--the fuel used in this type of eco-friendly car is made of a blend of conventional diesel fuel and vegetable oil. Any engine that uses diesel fuel can use this type of fuel with no conversions or any other extra measures. The only thing that you might consider doing is changing your oil filter a little more often. If you do not have a steady supply of biodiesel fuel you can switch back and forth between this fuel and regular diesel fuel.
Hybrids--this type of eco-friendly car works by capturing the energy that is created when it breaks. The energy that is stored in the battery is used as fuel until it is gone. When this happens the car will automatically switch to the gas engine. They do not require special fueling facilities and they are also quieter than a regular gasoline engine car.
Ethanol-based--this is a type of fuel additive and is usually made from corn, barley, or wheat. The most common fuel that is made from this additive is called E85. This is a blend of eighty-five percent ethanol and fifteen percent regular gasoline. The reason this additive is so eco-friendly is because it will help to reduce emissions and it also costs less than regular gasoline in most places. Some people do not like this additive because they feel that growing crops to be used for fuel will threaten the food supply and may also drive up the prices of meat and vegetables at the store. The reason that it may drive up the prices of meat is because corn is used as animal feed. The availability of E85 varies by location. Most auto manufactures are producing cars that are Ethanol Flexible Fuel Vehicles that will let you use either regular gas or the ethanol additive.
